IRMA has been offering Management Development Programmes for executives working with cooperatives and non-governmental organisations involved in development action. Recognising the importance of the role played by the latter and the uniqueness of the capacity building needs of people from NGOs, the institute specifically designed a Management Appreciation Programme for them. VOLAG-MAP, as the programme is popularly known amongst national and international NGOs, was offered in the year 1992 for the first time.
Personnel who have spent a considerable period of time with voluntary organisations in the developing countries are nominated by their employers for the programme. Typical participants are performing more of managerial roles rather than execution/ implementation roles. The participants benefit from a formal exposure to the principles and applications of development management – the core of this programme.
VOLAG-MAP has attracted a large number of participants from India and other developing countries such as Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Nepal, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Ethiopia, Kenya and Tanzania.
