Beyond Classroom: Students’ Initiatives

I-Speak

‘I-Speak is the public speaking club at IRMA, started by the students of PRM 39 batch. Public speaking is an important and essential skill for a professional. With ideas becoming the new currency, effective communication is a way to monetise it. From presenting projects to pitching one’s ideas, powerful speeches do create a huge impact by effectively conveying ideas to the audience. ISpeak is dedicated to help people who wish to develop their oratory skills and acquire leadership skills. The diverse group of students at IRMA have the finest ideas. ISpeak wants them to speak volumes. ISpeak is trying to help them to provide a platform where they can socialize and learn from each other.’

Chanakya

“As soon as the fear approaches near, attack and destroy it. – Chanakya”
This quote from Chanakya finds its relevance throughout the world and more so in B- schools, during Summer Internships and Placements. The dynamic nature of Placements has always perturbed students and have many a times left them restless and ambiguous around preparation. The solution however, hasn’t been to attack or destroy it, rather well thought curated approach to get rid of the fear
Mission: Providing high quality and feedback focused activities which improves and enhances the potential of fellow IRMANs to excel in interviews and Group discussions

I-Spirit

Owing its genesis to the COVID-19 lockdown, the club aims to supplement the IRMAn spirit of collectiveness and growth among the IRMA participants through Yoga, Meditation, and Mindfulness. The club believes that these tools can help the budding managers manage stress related to work and life. The focus is on the development of the inner self and personality of the individuals. Activities conducted include: Conducting regular Yoga and Meditation sessions, webinars by mindfulness and meditation experts, self-development sessions by Industry Leaders who practice the same principles, access to relevant resources, etc.

Abhyudaya- Development and Public Policy club:

The name ‘Abhyudaya’ translates, among other things, to ‘prosperity’. While the word ‘development’ may have multiple meanings, ‘prosperity’ can only be an outcome of the process of development. History has taught us that there is no single path towards achieving prosperity. The comprehensive curriculum followed at IRMA gives diverse perspectives to its participants about the word ‘development’. Abhyudaya, the development and public policy club of IRMA, was established in 2017 in response to the ever-increasing curiosity of the participants regarding the development and public policy sector. The process of learning is expedited when classroom learning and real-world experience go hand in hand. Abhyudaya is, first and foremost, a platform of learning for diverse minds with diverse perspectives about the development and public policy sector. Its purpose is to act as a facilitator for learning with the help of healthy debates and discussions between participants, faculty, and sectoral experts.

Jaivik

The IRMA Organic Farming Club is a PRM initiative. It was launched with the idea of raising student awareness in the area of sustainable agriculture providing hands-on experience in a small plot of half-acre land, while encouraging the application of management techniques to gain insights into the intricacies of the organic farming business.

Apart from the above intention mentioned, the club has several other strands too. To begin with, it is to make them understand the real- time difficulties faced by farmers especially the small & marginal ones. Students get to practice optimization in the face of limited resources. Also, the entire process of on-farm exercises of the club are intended to improve the Team spiritedness, Multi-tasking abilities, Leadership skills, and responsible behaviour among the participants.

Taking the initiative forward, Jooz-i also now procures and delivers fresh fruits. The next milestone is to start serving healthier snack alternatives to the participants. Jooz-i also puts up its stall during various on-campus events. Reflexion – the photography club

“There is one thing the photograph must contain, the humanity of the moment.”
— Robert Frank

REFLEXION -the photography club, captures the very essence of humanity in IRMA. Started by PRM34 and resurrected by PRM 40, the team has successfully recorded its presence on social media platforms through photography challenges and activities. We have held competitions for VFS journals and plan on collaborating with “The Humans of IRMA” team in the near future to capture a glimpse of life at IRMA campus. With the evolving social media involvements, we plan on bringing interactive sessions and workshops for budding photographers.

Laasya – Nrityashala of IRMA

Laasya embraces elegance with happiness and creates a platform for all to express themselves. Amidst the B-School hassle often all of us are drained and there is a very little space left to nurture or even retain the creativity. It is with this passion that Laasya was born in 2018, to create memories and make dance a creative expression of all. Given the diversity that IRMA brings in each year, the club has evolved to become a learning experience as well for all. Versatility and fitness becomes two other core values of the Club. There is a perfect interaction of learning and teaching as we cherish dance and it’s finesse in any form. Weekend dance sessions, garba nights, Onam cultural nights, the energy packed Pongal, or the Punjabi beats name it and Laasya would with zeal make it happen. Dancer or non dancer, everyone is equally welcome because at Laasya we help people reconnect with themselves and find the joy in dancing.
