Prof. Aashish Argade was invited as an expert speaker to the 12th Annual RMAI Student Flame Awards on 22nd September 2018. At the event, he spoke on Business Opportunities in Rural.
The Rural Marketing Association of India (RMAI) has instituted the annual Student Flame Awards for summer projects specifically for management students, with a view to recognize rural initiatives in the academic domain, particularly through the various internship projects that students engage in.
In his address, Prof. Argade spoke about how rural areas no longer present market opportunities for agriculture or agribusiness alone but also for marketers of white goods, cement, paints, FMCG, among others. This has largely been driven by changing profile of rural income and its sources as well as government spending on rural infrastructure.
He underscored that business opportunities are not just restricted to marketing. Businesses could engage with the rural segment as vendors and suppliers rather than just as consumers.
Prof. Argade works in the area of Marketing at the Institute of Rural Management Anand (IRMA).
