The development of value chains is viewed as an effective means of providing decent work opportunities and protecting the interest of producers in rural areas. Rural enterprises are capable of embracing e-business strategies to meet the norms set for local, regional, or global markets. E-business practices are aimed at mitigating risks stemming from power imbalances including information asymmetry across value chain entities capable of influencing terms of exchange. The study focuses on "weavers" and "bidi workers" in the Mahabubnagar district of Andhra Pradesh. The study highlights the potential rural enterprises have regarding adopting eBusiness strategies and exploring opportunities for convergence vis-à-vis pro-producer sustainable value chains. It uses value chain development for a framework in the study.
