International Development Research Centre (IDRC)-Think Tank Initiative (TTI) and Centre for Public Policy and Governance at the Institute of Rural Management Anand (IRMA) present a half-day dissemination workshop on ‘Enabling Development Through Panchayati Raj' on 27th May, 2014.

The workshop hosted eminent speakers and participants from across disciplines at IRMA. Broadly, the workshop aimed to enhance the current understanding of the role of Panchayati Raj Institutions (PRIs) in improving development outcomes. The core areas of focus included provision of public goods (health, education, schooling etc.), fiscal decentralization, socio-economic development in rural India, and women's political and individual empowerment.
The workshop saw participation from academics, corporate managers, and policymakers. The keynote address was delivered by Dr. S. S. Meenakshisundaram (former Secretary, Ministry of Rural Development, Government of India). Research presentations were made by Prof. Hari K. Nagarajan (RBI Chair Professor, IRMA) and Prof. Vani K. Borooah (University of Ulster, UK).
